Care Ambassadors

DO YOU HAVE STAFF OR HAVE YOU GOT THE POTENTIAL TO BE A CARE AMBASSADOR

We are looking for enthusiastic, committed people working in Care who are interested in becoming Care Ambassadors.  The aim is to raise the profile of careers in Social Care amongst young people in the South Yorkshire Area.

What is a Care Ambassador?

A Care Ambassador is a qualified, experienced, person working in the Care Sector, who is passionate about their work and has the ability to inspire young people to consider a career in Care.

The care Ambassador will act as a role model to young people offering them a chance to find out as much as possible about Professions in Care.

The Care Ambassador will be involved with Schools and Colleges encouraging young people towards a Career in Care and will be asked to:

  • Deliver presentations to inform young people
  • Help to facilitate workshops
  • Generally enrich the curriculum through classroom projects
  • Attend events to provide information and advice
  • Develop presentations/resources and activities for delivery to young people

What’s in it for the Care Ambassador?

  • As a Care Ambassador you can share your enthusiasm for your work and encourage a new generation of Care Professionals.
  • It will give you the opportunity to raise the profile of the service.
  • You will receive training to enhance your skills.
  • This is an opportunity to boost your confidence and develop your communication skills, whilst making a difference in an enjoyable way, by encouraging others to work in Care.

What’s in it for the Employer?

Employers who are involved in the Care Ambassador Scheme will help to pioneer recruitment programmes which will lead to a Professional Workforce for the future; visionary employers will raise the profile of their own business and that of the Care Sector in general.

  • By supporting your staff to become a Care Ambassador, you will be providing excellent development opportunities for them, whilst taking a proactive approach to promote best practice within your organisation.
  • Care employers have, for some time, experienced difficulties in recruiting staff that are prepared to undertake the necessary training and career development needed to professionalise the industry.
  • It is vital that young people are encouraged into Social Care.  This can only be achieved by raising the status of Care work and demonstrating the many opportunities available.
  • The growth in demand for services, the increasing rang in the dependency of service users and the requirements under the Care Standards Act, that staff be trained and competent to a National Recognised Standard has led to the need for a Professional Workforce.
  • Care staff are increasingly taking on duties previously carried out by Nurses and Social Care provision now provides vital support to the work of the Health Service.
  • Many professionals working in or around the industry began their careers in a Social Care environment.  Work based learning and/or further education can lead to careers in Care Management, Nursing, Paramedic, Therapy Services and Social Work.

Skills for Care (formally TOPSS) created the Care Ambassador Scheme South West in association with Local Partners.

This scheme has been successfully implemented in Barnsley supported by BMBC and Quality Care Partnership.

Business & Education South Yorkshire (BESY) and Quality Care Partnership have been commissioned by Skills for Care to continue to recruit and promote Care Ambassadors in South Yorkshire.

It makes sense to ensure that your business grows based on the needs of the service user; by supporting the Care Ambassador Scheme you will inspire young people to become your future workforce.
